26th – 30th April

This week the children will be busy exploring the continent of Europe where they will learn how to say hello in some different European languages! They will study where it is geographically on the globe and map, as well as looking at European animals & and monuments in different countries. There will be music-making with instruments from European countries and we will be listening to music. Don’t forget to send in any traditions, poems, songs, or information from your home countries as this brings the continents to life for the children!
Saying Hello to our friends around Europe
In Ireland, we say ‘Dia Dhuit’
In England, it’s ‘Hello’
In Poland we say ‘Czesc’
and in Serbia we say ‘Zdravo’!
In France they say ‘Bonjour’
In Spain it’s ‘Hola’
and in Germany we say ‘Halo’!

19th – 23rd April

Welcome to another week at the children’s house!! The children have all settled back in really well after the Easter Holidays, it’s great to see them enjoying their group project and having fun with their friends. This week we are moving on to the colourful continent of South America where the children will examine where it is situated on the globe and map. They will explore some of the landmarks, animals, and the Amazon rainforest and its layers.
On the creative side, there will be arts and crafts activities such as tracing the South American Map and making some Rio Carnival headdresses and music and movement relating to South American musical instruments and music. If anyone would like to share any experiences of South America this week please feel free to send it in to the girls, they will be delighted!
The Seven Continents Poem
North America, South America joined in the west,
Europe and Asia meet together and on Africa, they rest.
Australia stands alone, floating down below,
And Antarctica is the loneliest, where no one wants to go!

12th – 16th April

Welcome back everyone after our Easter break – we hope you all had a lovely couple of weeks & that your children are coming back all energised as we’ve a busy week ahead!! We’re starting a big group project today about the continents, so we’re beginning with North America; we’ll be learning all about it this week – the children will be introduced to it through the continent song, globe, jigsaw map & continental folder. It will cover areas of the cultural curriculum including history, geography & zoology and there will be pictures, discussions, & activities around the different countries, flags, animals, monuments, & musical instruments associated with North America. The children will also learn about Native Americans, Indigenous people of North America & the type of homes they lived in.

There will be lots of opportunities for arts and crafts, including an art activity using the North America Jigsaw piece, making a Native American Home using lollipop sticks & different geometric shapes, & colouring, cutting and gluing various animals & monuments onto a map of North America. There will be a fun playdough activity using orange playdough and a map of North America as well as playing the musical instruments used in native American music.
